Initial situation

From 1993 to 2024, the children and youth policy hub in Berlin served as the central coordination office for youth participation. It connected stakeholders, provided training, and promoted the integration of children’s and young people’s interests and participation at both district and state levels.

Task

We supported the hub in its public relations efforts and created various publications and materials. One of these was the notepad “Meine Rechte – Mein Block”, which informs children and young people in Berlin about their rights in a fun and accessible way.

Implementation/Results

Within the hub network, there was a constant demand for easy-to-understand informational materials on topics such as children’s rights and democracy. A key challenge was ensuring that the materials were not just used once but had long-term value. The second edition of “Meine Rechte – Mein Block”, illustrated by Emmanuel A. Murzeau, explains children’s rights in simple language, using real-life examples relevant to young people’s everyday lives. It encourages them to reflect on their school environment, neighbourhood, and home life. The notepad also provides guidance on where to seek help with problems and how participation works. And finally, “Mein Block” serves as a notepad, featuring small games that add a fun element to everyday life.
